Fraud: Doyin Okupe’s DG Position Threatened As LP Makes Move To Sack Him – Report

According to reports, the Labour Party (LP) might be considering a replacement for Doyin Okupe as the Director-General of its 2023 Presidential Campaign Council.

This is coming after Okupe was convicted of fraud allegations of over N200 million cash by a Federal High Court in Abuja.

The DG reportedly received the money from National Security Adviser (NSA) Sambo Dasuki

Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu submitted that Okupe’s action was in violation of the Money Laundering Act.

While also stating that the Act provides that no individual or organization shall receive any sum above N5 million and N10 million respectively without passing through a financial institution, the judge held that “there is no evidence that the money passed through a financial institution”.

The court consequently held that the first defendant, Dr Okupe was guilty in counts 34, 35, 36, and 59.

In a new development, Channels Television has reported that a source within the party, on Monday, confirmed that talks are already ongoing to replace Okupe.

The source, however, stated that the replacement would be decided by all the parties involved including Okupe.

Although he declined to mention possible replacements, fillers have former presidential aide, Akin Oshuntokun as a front runner to take Okupe’s position.

Meanwhile, reacting to his conviction on Monday, Okupe has blamed his travails on his enemies.
