Emefiele Calm As Sources Deny DSS Grilled CBN Staff
Officials at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) have stated that the apex bank is not bothered about negative reports associated with the bank and its Governor, Godwin Emefiele.
Despite reports of an offensive against the bank by the Department of State Services (DSS), officials have hinted that normalcy may have returned to the CBN.
An official told Guardian that Emefiele has been working since his return and “everything is calm”.
According to the official, who operates from the headquarters, said there was nothing to suggest that the governor was uncommonly disturbed.
Another staff of the apex bank dismissed reports that the DSS grilled officials of the bank, stressing that all senior staff were at their duty posts.
The source said: “It is unfortunate that the part-time job of some media houses is to manufacture fake news. The more unfortunate thing is that some mainstream media houses will also follow up on news items that do not have any facts. All our deputy governors are in their offices discharging their responsibilities.”
With the economic challenges facing the country, the official said the CBN would not waste its time responding to “news items that lack details and are unprofessionally delivered”.
Look, the CBN has a bigger fish to fry than respond to news items that lack ingredients of good journalism and ethics. The inflation figures came down a bit as shown in the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) report that was released on Monday. That, for the CBN, is the focus and that should be the focus of the media and Nigerians,” the source said.
An operative of the DSS told The Guardian anonymously that much of the information regarding Emefiele’s ordeal is mere speculation.
“I do not have any information. Nobody will speak to you on this matter,” he said.
