After testing 1440p support for PS5 in a beta software update released in July, Sony has officially rolled out the feature alongside some new features globally. The latest update to the PS5 adds 1440p HMDI video output, gamelists, and new social features.
Players with compatible displays will be able to output 1440p natively with the PS5. For games that render natively at 4k, the display will benefit from improved anti-aliasing through supersampling down to 1440p resolution. There is, however, a disadvantage with 1440p HDMI video output as the resolution does not work with Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) on the PS5.
Another feature coming to the PS5 in the latest update is the ability to search for content on YouTube through voice command. During gameplay and from anywhere on the PS5, players can say, “Hey PlayStation, find [keyword] on YouTube” to use the command. Voice command is only available for UK and US accounts at the moment.
Sony is also rolling out a new update to the PlayStation app later in September. Players can launch remote play directly from the PS app on Android and iOS. Coming to the app is also a new Share Screen request during parties so members can watch their friend’s gameplay from the app.
