The Galaxy Z Flip 4 is official and succeeds last year’s Galaxy Z Flip 3. The device will cost $999 just like its predecessor, and it comes with some improvements.
In terms of design, the Galaxy Z Flip 4 doesn’t change much from the Flip 3, but it is now shorter and narrower in form. It has a matte finish and is available in Bora Purple, Graphite, Pink Gold, and Blue colourways. For customers who want their colours, Samsung offers a Bespoke Edition with up to 75 colour combinations.
Like the Galaxy Z Fold 4, the Flip 4 is powered by the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 and slapped with the One UI 4.1.1 out of the box. It has 8GB of RAM paired with either 128GB, 256GB, or 512GB of storage. The Flip 4 will also get up to four years of major Android updates and up to five years of security patches.
In terms of display, the Flip 4 has the same 1.9-inch outer panel that displays information such as the time, notifications, select widgets, and quick selfies. The “Quick Shot” feature gets some improvements, including the ability to take Portrait shots and optimization for Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp. Samsung has also added a new “FlexCam” mode. The inner panel remains the same at 6.7-inch 120Hz under ultrathin glass.
Regarding the camera, there is a 12MP main shooter at the back and a 12MP ultrawide. Samsung says the sensor has been upgraded and now lets in 65 per cent lighter than its predecessor. In the display, there is a 10MP selfie camera.
The biggest upgrade comes in the camera department to the Galaxy Z Flip 4. The device features a 3,700 mAh battery, up 400 mAh from last year’s Flip 3. Users will also enjoy a charging time with the 25W wired charging speed, but wireless charging is still at 15W. According to Samsung, users will get around 50% battery level with a 30 minutes charge time.
Pre-orders are underway, and the Flip 4 will ship on August 26th.
