How to Create a QR Code
What is a QR Code?
According to Wikipedia, QR (abbreviated from Quick Response Code) is the trademark for a type of matrix barcode (or two-dimensional barcode) first designed in Japan for the automotive industry. A barcode is a machine-readable optical label that contains information about the item to which it is attached. QR codes are tiny black and white squiggle-like barcodes embedded on any item the owner wants people to find more information about.
Let’s say I bought a packaged item from the grocery store and a QR code is placed on the seal, If I use a barcode scanner to scan it I will find further information the manufactures want me to see, be it their website, address or any information whatsoever as long as it is embedded in the code. QR code is now widely adopted in industries, companies and stores as it can be used as a form of marketing campaign, most business cards I see nowadays have QR codes embedded in them.
How to Create a QR Code
There many websites for generating QR codes but I will just go with goqr.me as it’s my personal favourite for generating codes. GOQR.me is a simple yet effective website offering different flexibility when creating your QR codes.
Select what type of information you want the code to send to people viewing it, in this case I will be choosing a website so I will just enter my URL there. As you are typing a live preview of the code will be generated and you see at the right side of your screen.
When you are done click on the Download button to get your newly created QR code in any file format (EPS, SVG, PNG or JPEG) you want.
Congratulations! Your code is generated, you can use anywhere for free now. To check if it’s working go to your Android Playstore, search and download any free barcode scanner. Make sure your phone has internet access then scan your barcode.
