How to View Forgotten Passwords & Username on Your Internet Browser

If you use a personal PC you probably been saving your passwords whenever you log in to a website that requires it. The Browsers on your computer (Google Chrome or Firefox and the rest) gives you the option to save the passwords so that you don’t have to enter it again when next you visit that particular website that requires it.

Often times, people forget their passwords especially those who use different ones for different websites, even after they’ve chosen to save it on their internet browsers. Whenever you try to sign-in to these websites you only see your usernames and the usual black dots which represents your password. Sometimes you may want to sign-in to these websites on another computer but you cannot remember the password expect you use your personal PC where the password has been saved on your browser. Most people do not actually know there’s a particular place in their browsers where they can see all passwords which have been saved. For this article I will be using Google Chrome as an example.

How to View Your Passwords & Usernames

Open your Google Chrome browser on your PC, navigate to the upper right side and click on the tiny 3 parallel dots as shown below to open the control and customization menu.

Scroll down and click on ‘Settings’ to open the settings panel. Click on ‘Show advanced settings’ to open more options. Scroll down and click on ‘Manage passwords’ as shown below.

Here you see all the usernames and passwords that have been saved from different websites on your internet browser.

The passwords are hidden in the usual black dots, scroll to the one you want to reveal from the list and click on ‘Show’. You will be prompted to enter your Windows log-on password as an extra security measure which is a good thing.

The password is now shown to you, you can chose to hide it back again after seeing it.

One thing this has taught me is that I have to be careful who knows my Windows log-on password, with that they can access all my saved passwords from Google Chrome.
