The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) won two seats in the Legislative Assembly in the re-run election in Kano.

The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has won two House of Assembly seats in the rerun election held in Kano on Saturday, February 3.

However, the commission suspended the rerun polls in Kunchi/Tsanyawa state constituency due to disruptions and irregularities, including the hijacking and snatching of electoral materials there.

In the results announced by INEC on Sunday,  Bello Muhammad Butu-Butu of the NNPP was declared winner of the Saturday’s rerun election in Rimin Gado/Tofa constituency.

Also, Alhassan Zakariya Ishaq of NNPP won the House of Assembly by-election in Kura/Garun Malam constituency.

The returning officer of the election, Prof. Ibrahim Tajo Suraj, declared that Alhaji Bello Muhammad Butu-Butu of the NNPP polled 31,135 votes to defeat his opponent and candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who got 25,577 votes.

Prof. Shehu Musa Galadanchi, the returning officer of Kura/Garun Malam state Assembly rerun, declared Alhassan Zakariya Ishaq of the NNPP as winner of the election in the constituency.

Ishaq garnered 37,262 votes to defeat Musa Hayatu Daurawar of APC who scored 30,803 votes.

INEC on Saturday suspended the re-run polls in Kunchi/Tsanyawa state constituency of Kano.

This was just as the police arrested dozens of hoodlums who allegedly snatched election materials during the rerun election polls in the area.

INEC National Commissioner and Chairman Information and Voter Education, Sam Olumeku, said suspension of the rerun in the affected areas aligned with the provisions of Section 24(3) of the Electoral Act 2022.

The electoral commission urged security agencies to investigate the incidents, saying necessary measures for the affected constituencies will be announced after the commission’s meeting on Monday.
