Google Announces $899 Pixel 7 Pro with Tensor G2 Processor
After teasing the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro for some time, Google unveiled the devices at its Made by Google event on Thursday.
Like the Pixel 6 Pro, the Pixel 7 Pro has a 6.7-inch display with a variable refresh LTPO (Low-Temperature Polycrystalline Oxide) rate that can go as low as 10Hz and as high as 120Hz. Peak brightness is up by 20 per cent, while the OLED panel has the same Gorilla Glass Victus protection used for the Pixel 6 Pro.
Google’s second generation of in-house chipset, the Tensor G2, powers the Pixel 7 Pro. The new chipset is built on a 4nm process with three (2+2+4) core clusters, a Tensor Processing Unit for machine learning, and a Titan M2 chip for security. The Tensor G2 chipset is bundled with 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 128/256 or 512GB of UFS 3.1 storage, depending on your region. The Pixel 7 Pro has an in-display fingerprint and a Face Unlock that uses the 10.8MP (f/2.2) front-facing camera. Google provides access to its Google One VPN service at no extra cost.

In terms of cameras, Google has redesigned the camera bar. The triple camera cutout now has a shiny-looking anodized aluminium frame encapsulating it. The rear camera setup consists of a 50MP (82° FOV, f/1.85), 12-megapixel ultrawide (114°, f/2.2), and upgraded 48-megapixel 5x telephoto zoom lens (f/3.5). There is also an LED flash completing the camera system setup.
The telephoto lens of the Pixel 7 Pro now has an expanded zoom range capable of “Super Res Zoom” at up to 30x with electronic and optical image stabilization. The three lenses also have laser detect auto-focus (LDAF).
Regarding the video, the Pixel 7 Pro shoots up to 4K60 on the rear camera, 4K30 and 1080p60 with the front-facing camera. Google has also added new features like “Cinematic Blur,” which applies software-based bokeh effects. The Pixel 7 Pro is also IP68 certified for water and dust resistance.
The Pixel 7 Pro ships with Android 13 out of the box, and Google guarantees three subsequent OS upgrades and five years of security updates. The device is available in Obsidian (black), Snow (white/silver), and Hazel (green/gold). In terms of juice, the Pixel 7 has a 5,000mAh battery with 23W wired fast charge supported. Wireless charging is also supported at 20W+ speeds with compatible Qi wireless chargers, including the second-generation Pixel Stand. Reverse wireless charging is available with Battery Share for accessories like Pixel Buds.
Pricing for the Pixel 7 starts at $599, while the Pixel 7 Pro starts at $899. Pre-orders are underway, and the devices will start shipping on 13th October.
