Apple Announces iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus with Upgraded Cameras and Emergency Satellite SOS

Apple has officially announced the new iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus. Last year’s Mini iPhone has now been replaced with the iPhone 14 Plus, which features the same 6.7-inch screen as the iPhone 14 Pro Max, while the iPhone 14 maintains the 6.1-inch screen as the iPhone 13.

The iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus feature an aluminium design in five finishes as opposed to the Pro lineup with a stainless glass design. While the Pro iPhone 14 phones have Super Retina XDR displays with ProMotion, the iPhone 14 settles for an OLED panel. Peak brightness on the iPhone 14 is now up to 1200 nits.

The new iPhones have a 12MP main camera with a larger sensor and larger pixels, a new front TrueDepth camera, and the Ultra Wide camera to capture more of a scene. A new Photonic Engine also enables better performance in low-light environments.

For the first time, there is an emergency SOS via a satellite that enables emergency services when there is no cellular or Wi-Fi connection. This feature will be rolled out in November to users in the US and Canada, and it will be free for two years.

The iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus are powered by the A15 Bionic chipset with a 5-core GPU that enables smoother graphics for video apps and high-performance gaming. The 6-core CPU handles demanding tasks, and the 16-core Neural Engine can perform 15.8 trillion operations per second. Apple says the iPhone 14 Plus has the “best battery life ever in any iPhone,” thanks to the A15 Bionic chip.

The iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus will be available for preorder this Friday, September 9th, and they will be available on September 16th. Pricing for the iPhone 14 starts at $799, and the iPhone 14 Plus starts at $899.
