2023 Presidency: Organised Labour Presents Charter Of Demands To Tinubu
The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) have presented workers’ charter of demands to the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
reports that the Organised Labour presented part their demands to Tinubu at a town hall meeting held at Chida Hotel International Conference Centre in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Monday.
Speaking on behalf of the Labour leaders, NLC President, Comrade Ayuba Wabba said one of their key demands includes a total war on Corruption.
Wabba said corruption has almost destroyed the social and economic fabric of Nigeria across the private and public sectors and is a reason the country is not making the desired Progress.
The NLC President added that another demand of the workers is to make social and economic justice a priority
In Nigeria, our problem is a people problem and we must have a government that will prioritise the fight against corruption. This is a key demand for Labour. We also need a government that will make social and economic justice a priority,”he said.
Responding to the question on corruption, Tinubu promised that his administration would have a zero-tolerance to corruption by strengthening anti-corruption agencies.
In attendance at the meeting were the TUC President, Festus Osifo; Tinubu’s running mate, Senator Kashim Shettima; and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila.
Others were the Director General of the APC Campaign Council, Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State; Secretary of the APC Campaign Council, James Faleke; Kebbi Governor, Atiku Bagudu; his contemporary in Jigawa, Abubakar Badaru and Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq Of Kwara.
