2023: Atiku will get 60 per cent votes in Imo say PDP leaders

Leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in Imo State, have vowed to garner over 60 per cent votes cast during the forthcoming presidential election in the state for Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and Ifeanyi Okowa.

They also urged party members to intensify efforts to ensure victory for party’s candidates across levels in the state.

The party leaders, who made the call at the inauguration of the Presidential Campaign Council Committee for the state held in Owerri, at the weekend, said the party is united to achieve success during the polls.

The committee has the immediate past governor of the state, Emeka Ihedioha, as Chairman, his former Deputy, Gerald Ironu, as Vice Chairman, while the Campaign Director and Deputy Director are Greg Egu and Charles Ezekwem, respectively.

Speaking shortly after the inauguration, Ihedioha assured that the committee, as well as the party is committed to delivering Atiku and his running mate, Okowa, in the state.

He said: “We are proud to be inaugurated today. We accept to work for our presidential candidate and his running mate.

“Though we have a difficult task, don’t forget that in last presidential election, PDP polled 67 per cent of the total votes cast in Imo, and in the election before that, we got 93 per cent.
“When we were in government, we granted autonomy to the local government system, restored confidence in governance and paid pensions, thereby alleviating poverty in the state.

“These are credentials we are taking to Imo people. PDP has the best message in Imo, and we are confident of victory.
“Also, our vice presidential candidate, Okowa, is a full-blooded Igbo man. So, we have a stake in this election.”
On his part, the

Campaign Director, Egu, said: “Our target is to get over 60 per cent of votes in Imo for Atiku. If we elect a PDP president, anyone who wins the ticket of PDP for Imo governorship will move straight to Douglas House.”
