National Grid plc is a British multinational electricity and gas utility company headquartered in London, England. Its principal activities are in the United Kingdom, where it owns and operates electricity and natural gas transmission networks, and in the Northeastern United States, where as well as operating transmission networks, the company produces and supplies electricity and gas, providing both to customers in New York and Massachusetts.

The national grid, on Thursday, suffered a fresh total system collapse for the first time in one year.


According to the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) Plc, in a notice to customers, the national grid collapsed at about 12.40 a.m. today.

In a notice to customers, the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) Plc said the national grid collapsed at about 12.40 am today.

Ndidi Mbah, spokesperson for the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), also confirmed the development to TheCable.

“It is a system collapse, but we are trying to restore it,” she said.

Multiple sources within the power sector and electricity distribution companies officially confirmed this development on Thursday morning, according to the Punch.

The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) also reported the collapse. “The management of AEDC wishes to inform its customers that the power outage currently being experienced is a result of a system failure from the national grid in the early hours of today, 14 September 2023.
