Family Link by Google will help create Google account for children below 13

By Google’s age restriction, to create Google account for a child, he or she must at least be 13 years old for most countries. However with the announcement of a new feature called Family Link, underage kids can now have their personal Google account.

Google has finally broken its long-standing rule in order to tap into the so-called family market, currently ruled by Amazon.

With Family Link, parents will from now on be able to create Google account for their children; at the same time have control over what they do with the account; after creating the account and setting it up in their children’s gadget, precisely an Android phone, they can manage and monitor the kinds of applications they installed, measure the hours spent on the device, and even remotely look it.

How to Create Google account for A Child under 13

If you are a parent that wants to create Google account for your child under 13, you must personally have an Android phone and a Google account. Then you must get an Android phone running Android 7.0 Nougat for the child; or beta still update the phone to Android Nougat. After that, you will need to proceed to Family Link page.

On getting to the Family Link page, you will need to click on REQUEST INVITE to get started. After clicking REQUEST INVITE, follow up with the instructions to complete the creation of the kid’s Google account.

As clearly stated on the Family Link page, this feature is at present only available in the US; and like most newly launched features, other countries will have to wait till this feature will be available for their citizens.

There is a debate on this newly introduced feature about Google’s collection of anonymous data about kids. Since we all know that Google collects our data and almost knows almost everything about us, some people think Google might be using a Google account for kids as a way of building up data profile of kids.
