Yemi Eberechi Alade was born on March 13th, 1989 in Abia State, Nigeria. Her father, James Alade, was a former commissioner of Police of Yoruba Origin from Ikun Akoko in Ondo state and her mother, Helen Uzoma, an Igbo from Abia State. Yemi Alade, the fifth child of her parent’s eleven children, is often referred to as an Yoruba-Igbo girl. She is a very famous Nigerian singer, who performs in Afropop and R&B style.

Being born into a family with parents from two different ethnic groups gave Yemi an advantage that she has wielded well with her mastery and fluency in both the Igbo and Yoruba languages. She attended St. Saviors British Primary School and then went on to Victory Grammar School, Lagos. She also studied Geography at the University of Lagos.

In 2009, Yemi became popular after she won Peak Talent show and she release her first official musical single under “Jus” Kiddin” Which she titled “Fimisile”. In 2013, she signed with are current label, Effyzzie Music Group, and released her single “Ghen Ghen Love”. Later that year she release another video “Bamboo”, produced by Fliptyce which was highly romantic.
Towards the new ending of the year she came out with a viral single which have gotten over 80 million video views on YouTube titled date a song she is known for “Jonney”, produced by Selebobo. The song became a ringtone all over the world, the song dominated music Tanzania, Kenya, Ghana, South Africa, Liberia, Uganda, Zimbabwe, and the United Kingdom, among others. It has been listed as one of the best songs of 2013, despite the fact that it was released towards the end of the year and without a music video. The song was her breakthrough in the Nigeria music industry. She featured on the covers of several magazines and performed around the world, sharing stages and songs with Mary J.
