Osinbajo was educated at Corona Primary School, and his Secondary School at Igbobi College, Yaba, both in Lagos. He studied for his undergraduate degree in Law at the University of Lagos, where he was awarded a LLB Law degree from 1975 to 1978. He got his Master of Laws after attending the London School of Economics in 1981.

On completion of his academic pursuit, Osibanjo engaged in law practice, a profession he practiced so well that he was later elevated to the position of a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN). A Professor of Law, he was the Head of Public Law at the Faculty of Law, University of Lagos. Between 1988 and 1992, he was the Special Adviser to the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
He also served as a staff member of the United Nations and Member of the United Nation’s Secretary General’s Committee of Experts on Conduct and Discipline of UN Peacekeeping personnel around the globe. He was an Ethics Advisor to the Ethics Committee of the African Development Bank and a non-executive Director of Citibank.
He was appointed Lagos State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in 1999 and re-appointed for a second term in 2003. During the period of his public service, he commenced the Lagos State justice reform project. A prominent feature of that project was the establishment of the Directorate for Citizens’ Rights (DCR) which provides free legal services and legal representation to indigent citizens of the state. This initiative gave a voice to many who would otherwise not have a way to access their rights.
Prof. Osinbajo is Co-founder and Board Member Convention on Business Integrity and the Justice Research Institute Ltd. He has also authored several law books. In 2007, Prof. Osinbajo and his wife founded The Orderly Society Trust, a non- governmental organization that is dedicated to the promotion of Christian ethics and orderliness. The trust is in honour of the memories of Isaac Opeolu Osinbajo (1919 to 1996) and Oluwatoyin Osinbajo (1962 to 2006). Its aim is to disseminate ethics of integrity, patriotism, respect for civic obligation and etiquette.
As a spiritual leader, Osinbajo has organized various initiatives that work towards social justice. He organizes the Liberty Schools Project that provides free primary school education with free school lunches to poor children. This Project has three sites in poor communities in Obanikoro, Ikota and Makoko, all in Lagos. Other initiatives include free health care facilities, free legal services, social rehabilitation, skills acquisition for the very poor, a regular soup kitchen service, and free shelter for young people without accommodation. He is an Emeritus Ambassador for the Environment in Lagos. He has also helped analyse financial issues DayStar Christian Center and “The Platform” and has a huge wealth of experience.
Osinbajo was one of the notable Nigerians who designed and produced a manifesto for the All Progressives Congress (APC) when it was formed in 2013. He assumed office as the 14th Vice President of Nigeria after taking the oath of office on the May 29th, 2015, at the Eagle Square, Abuja.

Osinbajo is married to Oladolapo Osinbajo, the grand daughter of Obafemi Awolowo. Her mother is Otunba Olubusola Soyode, one of the children of Awolowo, who was one of the founding fathers of Nigeria. The couple got married on November 25th, 1989, and have three children; Kiki, Kanyinsola and Fiyinfoluwa.
Before his inauguration, Osinbajo was the pastor-in-charge of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Lagos Province 48, and his wife, Dolapo, the leader of the Ladies Fellowship of the same church.
