The McDonald Fellowships 2023 is a not-to-miss chance for young early-career multiple sclerosis researchers to take their academic careers to the next level. The McDonald Fellowships attracts young Researchers from low- and middle-income countries to their fully-funded International Fellowship program. This program provides students with practical exposure by becoming a vital part of a diverse community of scholars worldwide. The McDonald Fellowship enables early career multiple sclerosis researchers from low- and middle-income countries to work in a research institution outside of their own country. Following the award, we expect applicants will be able to use the newly developed expertise and networks, continuing to undertake MS research and/or patient care in low- and middle-income countries.

Financial Benefits For McDonald Fellowships

McDonald Fellowships will provide the recipient with the following benefits:

  • The fellowship will provide around £30,000 GBP per year. The amount will be used to cover travel and living costs.
  • an additional contribution of £2,000 GBP per year to the host institution

Eligibility Criteria For McDonald Fellowships

  • Applicant must be educated to postgraduate level (at least MSc, preferably Ph.D./MD) in an area relevant to multiple sclerosis
  • Citizens of low-income or middle-income countries (as defined by World Bank).
  • Currently working or studying in a low or middle-income country (as defined by World Bank).
  • Applicants should conduct research that is relevant to multiple sclerosis.
  • Students studying abroad on a project supported by an MSIF grant.
  • You may undertake a research project at a foreign or domestic research institute or hospital or work virtually.
  • Applicants may verify eligibility by searching the website for the field of work or discipline in which they are interested.

  1. Complete all sections of the online application form
  2. The Host needs to provide a supporting statement at the end of the application*
  3. Add names and contact details of 3 referees, including the applicant’s current supervisor or employer
  4. Ask referees to submit reference letters to research{at}msif{dot}org before the deadline
