Concerning the Federal Teachers’ Scheme

The Federal Teachers’ Scheme was developed in 2006 as part of the Federal Government’s effort to ensure that Nigerians receive high-quality basic education.
Unemployed holders of the Nigeria Certificate of Education (NCE) are recruited for a two-year teaching service in public basic education schools under the scheme (ECCDE, primary and junior secondary).

Aims and objectives

The following are some of the scheme’s goals:

Assisting states in reducing teacher shortages in order to ensure the effectiveness of the UBE program;

Providing young NCE graduates with hands-on experience in their chosen field;

Ensuring that candidates in the UBE program receive a high-quality education; and

Arrangement

The Unit is led by a National Coordinator, who is assisted by personnel from other Commission departments. The Scheme is implemented using the UBEC framework that already exists (Headquarters, Zonal and State Offices). via a designated Desk Officer appointed by each Board, the Commission works closely with the SUBEBs. The Desk Officer is in charge of the Scheme’s day-to-day implementation at the state level.
