Lamido attended Birnin Kudu Primary School from 1955 to 1961 for his primary education, and the famous Barewa College, Zaria, from 1962 for his secondary education.

After his secondary education, his initial desire to be trained in Railway Engineering wen when he was actually faced with the practical side of the Training School, Zaria. Parental disapproval denied him a chance to start a Military career, while unfortunate events in Nigeria at that time, truncated his efforts to join the Nigerian Police. He therefore joined the services of Nigerian Tobbaco Company, Zaria in 1969 as a Quality Control Officer responsible for ascertaining the quqlity of mixing and packaging of cigarettes. He rose to the position Zonal Salesman at NTC, Zaria, first, for the North West areas of Gusau and Sokoto, and later for the North East Zone covering Taraba, Bauchi, Adamawa, Borno and Yobe areas. His three-year stint with Nigerian Tobacco Company also so him covering Plateau and Benue States, which afforded him the opportunity of an intimate knowledge of the terrain and peculiarities of the entire Northern Region of Nigeria.
In 1972, Lamido joined the services of Christlieb as the Northern Field Manager and later, Brand Manager (provisions). As Brand Manager he opened new offices of company which sold the Thermos flasks, Quaker products, Heinz products, Corn flakes, peppermint, Vaseline, and Phensic {on behalf of Beecham}. In this position, he also had the privilege of touring Rivers and Cross Rivers as well as the present Delta and Edo States. One thing is clear, Sule Lamido’s Company executive positions gave him first-hand knowledge of the vast geographical zones of Nigeria, long before he became a Politian.
With the return of political activities in preparation for Nigeria’s Second Republic, Lamido joined politics. He was tortured under the finest of political traditions in the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) when the famous nationalist and illustrious apostle of peoples-oriented politics, Malam Aminu kano held sway. He cut his political teeth in 1979 when, at the young age of 31, he contested and won election into the Federal House of Representatives and serve as a member of the House Business, Accounts, Water Resources and Works Committees.
Lamido’s political odyssey has seen him traversing the legislative, party leadership, and executive arenas where he proved his mettle and left his imprint as he journeyed along. He was, at various times: Pioneer Chairman, Social Democratic Party (SDP), Kano State, Nigerian Agricultural and Cooperative Bank (NACB), 1994, Delegate National Constitutional Conference 1995, Member, G-18, an opposition platform of the most notable Northern Politicians, against the policies of self-successions of military ruler at the time. Member G-34, an opposition platform of some of Nigeria’s notable politicians, and Minister of Foreign Affairs, 1999-2003. He was governor of Jigawa State between May 2007 and May 2015.
Lamido was on April 16th, 2015 claimed to leave N11 billion liability for the incoming government. However, the EFCC arrested him on July 7 2015 with his two sons in Abuja. He was later accused of fraudulently laundering 10 Billion Naira.
