Biography

Pete Edochie was born on the 7th of March 1947 in Enugu, Nigeria. He hails from Anambra State, but was raised in Zaria, Kaduna. He had his primary education at St. Patrick’s and St. James Primary School, Zaria. And then proceeded to St. John’s College for secondary education. Subsequently, Edochie attended the School of Journalism and Television in England and also did some courses overseas.
After his secondary school education, before he moved to England to study, Edochie worked with Nigerian Railway Corporation. Then in 1967, after his education, he got into broadcasting

Career

In September 2017, Edochie endorsed Wikimedia movement in Nigeria by appearing in a video to increase awareness and use of Wikipedia among the older generations.He got into radio broadcasting in 1967 at the age of 20 as a junior programmes assistant after which he was elevated to the level of a Director. He was director of programmes, but doubling sometimes as Deputy Managing Director and occasionally acting as Managing Director. He quit ABS because the government decided to politicise the affairs of their FM station, thereby resulting in the entire management being asked to move out, including him. He was to be the immediate successor to the MD but had to leave and enrol into the movie industry. Prior to that, he had featured in Things Fall Apart and had won an International Award. The BBC flew into Nigeria to interview him for his role in Things Fall Apart.

Early Life

He was born on the 4th of March 1947 in Enugu state, in the Eastern part of Nigeria. He was, however, was an indigene of Anambra state. Edochie was born in what many categorized as early Nigeria as it was more than a decade before Nigeria gained independence and much longer before the great Civil War.
He was therefore fortunate to witness the most peaceful of times and had his fundamental education in the Neighboring state of Kaduna. The veteran actor had his fundamental education in schools located in Zaria Kaduna, and after a successful short stint there he gained interest in broadcasting and subsequently went ahead to further his education in it.

The actor proceeded to England to further his education. There he enrolled in the School of Journalism and Television, where he studied Journalism and Television. With the required basic skills and knowledge, Pete Edochie returned to Nigeria and joined the Eastern Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation (ENBC) a few months to when the Civil War broke out. The ENBC was later changed to Radio Biafra. During his day at the ENBC, the veteran actor witnessed the start and end of the Biafran war and was later trained to by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) in 1980.

Pete Edochie is married to his wife Josephine Richie Edochie. Together they have children together, some of which have made names for themselves in the entertainment industry like Yul Edochie and Linc Edochie. He is an indigene of Nteje in Oyi Local Government Area, Anambra State.
