G-5’s Consensus On Rotation Of Presidency To South Has Ruled Out Atiku – Osita Okechukwu Says
The Director General of the Voice of Nigeria (VON), Osita Okechukwu has come out to say the stand of the G-5 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors to rotate the presidency to the south has ruled out the presidential candidate of the party, Atiku Abubakar.
According to him, the aggrieved PDP governors’ position was in line with the noble and courageous stance of their northern APC counterparts.
reports that Okechukwu, who is a founding member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in a statement on Thursday explained that it was the stand of their northern counterparts to rotate the presidency to the south that led to the candidacy of the APC flag bearer, Bola Tinubu.
He, therefore, opined that the G5’s consensus on the rotation of the presidency to the south has effectively ruled out Atiku, so it was left to the group to decide between the two front runners from the south, Tinubu and Labour Party (LP) flag bearer, Peter Obi.
Okechukwu pointed out that: “Equity, fairness and justice demand that for national loyalty, no one section should dominate the other. This is the injustice PDP deliberately wants to bequeath to Nigerians.
“This latest London conference by the G5 governors, led by Nyesom Wike, comes as the defining moment for them to take a decisive stand that would guide their followers. It also sounds like the death knell for any possible reconciliation within the PDP.”
learnt that a former Rivers State commissioner who spoke in confidence told some pressmen in Abuja on Thursday that the G5 governors’ agitations have narrowed down the power shift to the south, which was declared in Lagos by southern governors.
She said as quoted by The Sun: “You know the presidential contest is like a beauty contest, where only the registered participants are considered. The G-5 governors agree that Obi is not a saint but comes with fresher characteristics than the other candidates.”
