Wizkid Biography

Wizkid was born on July 16, 1990, in Surulere, Lagos, Lagos State, Nigeria, His real name is Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, better known by his stage name. He was raised with his 12 sisters and his mother Jane Dolapo was a Pentecostal Christian while Wizkid’s father Alhaji Muniru practiced Islam.
 
He did his schooling at the primary school in Surulere and later he got enrolled at Lagos State University but in 2009 he drop out.

Music was a big influence in Wizkid’s early life as well as listening to Bob Marley and Fela Kuti. Wizkid was introduced to American rappers like Master P, Snoop Dogg, and Bow Wow.
 
He began singing and writing his songs under the name Lil Prince and he was making music with a group of his Church friends called the Glorious Five.

Wizkid was mentored by rapper Naeto C, who helped him when he was just 15 years old. At the age of 19, Wizkid met with Banky and after the meeting, he signed his first record deal with Banky W’s label ‘Empire Mates Entertainment.

Education

Wizkid had his high education at the Ijebu Ode Grammar School. He dropped out of Lagos State University (LASU) in mid-2009 and later attended Lead City University, but dropped out after completing two sessions.

Wizkid dropped his single “Holla at Your Boy” in 2010 which went viral and it made a lot of people pay attention to him. Wizkid released his debut album “Superstar” in 2011.
 
That album won the award for Best Album of the Year at the 2012 Nigeria Entertainment Awards and received the claim from fans and critics alike.
 
After getting so much fame in the music world, Wizkid toured London, England, and performed at the HMV Apollo in 2012.
 
In September 2014, Wizkid dropped his second studio album, called “Ayo” which included features from Tyga, Wale, and Akon. Wizkid’s first international collab was with Akon on a remix of his ‘Don’t Dull’.
 
By far his biggest look in America came out of Drake’s album ‘Views’ when he appeared on the song “One Dance”. That song went to number one in 15 countries.
 
A year later, Wizkid signed a multi-album deal with RCA Records and dropped a third studio album called “Sounds from the Other Side” to collaborations with Chris Brown and Drake. That album covers the five-track including the hit single “Come Closer” featuring Drake.

In 2018, Wizkid was featured on the Normani and Calvin Harris’ song ‘Checklist’ which peaked at #1 on the Billboard World Digital Song Sales chart.
 
In the following year, Wizkid was featured on Beyonce’s single “Brown Skin Girl’ which got him a Grammy Award for Best Music Video. In February 2021, Wizkid became the most-streamed Nigerian singer of all time on Spotify.

As of 2022, Wizkid Net Worth is roughly $4 Million US. He is one of the highest-paid singers and songwriters in the Nigerian Music Industry, who has earned fame through his hit albums.
 
He had already made great wealth from his profession such as album sales, online streaming, merchandising, and live performances. Wizkid charges between $ 20,000 to $ 50,000 for performing a show.

Apart from that, Not only he is making millions as a musician, but he is also earning a vast chunk of money from brand endorsements and sponsorships.
