Why We Shut Down Quilox Club – Lagos Govt
The Lagos State government has confirmed the shutting down of a popular nightclub in the state, Quilox located at Ozumba Nbadwe Street, Victoria Island.
gathered that the nightclub, owned by a federal lawmaker, Shina Peller was shut down on Saturday, 24th December.
Confirming the development and the reason behind it, the General Manager of the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA), Dolapo Fasawe said the outfit was shut down for organizing an event without a sound control permit.
The statement on Sunday confirmed that the enforcement exercise was jointly carried out by LASEPA and the Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Unit (task force) around 4pm.
Fasawe explained that some concerned residents of the area who were being disturbed by the activities at the club made distress calls to his agency about the environmental nuisance constituted by the club.
She said, “To avert situations like this, we recently held a stakeholders’ parley with the owners and chief executive officers of night clubs in the state to address the issue of noise pollution during the festive period. The state, in its magnanimity, compassionately increased the decibels to accommodate leisure and hospitality business interest.
“We urged them to apply for sound control permits to enable us to reach out and notify the host community of the intended programme and further deploy our officials to the venue for proper monitoring and prevention of excessive noise pollution.”
Fasawe however added that Quilox ignored the initiative to comply with noise control measures put in place.
