OPay POS: How to Apply in Nigeria, Charges and FAQs
For you to be eligible for an OPay POS in Nigeria, you need to first become an agent. To become an OPay agent, you have to download the app from the Google Play or Apple App Store and sign up as an agent. Doing this will make you eligible for the OPay POS machine which you can use to generate an extra income in your locality.
After signing up on the app to be an agent, you must master the app interface and know how to perform basic transactions on it. You also need to have performed a considerable number of transactions using the app after which you can now proceed to get the POS.
How to Request for an OPay POS Machine
There are basically three major steps you have to follow for you to make this request, they are outlined below:
Upgrade Your KYC to Level 3
This is the first step you need to take out of the three. On the OPay app, you have to upgrade your KYC to Merchant Level 3 by following the steps below:
On the OPay app, go to “Me” to access your profile.
Tap on the picture profile account and go to “Account Details”.
Click on “Upgrade to Level 3”.
For you to move to level 3, you now have to upload your picture, a recognised government ID (Voter’s Card, Driver’s Licence, National ID or an International Passport), and a recent utility bill (PHCN bill, LAWMA bill or Water bill).
Add your BVN.
Click on Submit.
After your submission, the OPay team will now verify your documents in order to approve your upgrade.
Switching Profile to Merchant
Now that you have upgraded to Level 3, the next thing to do is to proceed to switch to “Merchant”.
On the OPay app, go to “Me” to access your profile.
Tap on the picture profile account and go to “Account Details”.
Click on “Upgrade to Merchant.”
Enter your business information and fill all required information.
Click on upgrade.
After your submission, the OPay team will now verify your documents in order to approve your upgrade.
Merchant Application
Now that you have upgraded to Merchant, the next thing to do is to proceed to “Merchant Apply”.
Open the OPay app and go to “Merchant Apply”.
Fill the form shown to you with the required information.
Upload your last 3 months transaction history.
Upload a recognised government ID.
It is expected you have setup a business centre for you to want an OPay POS. You now have to take a picture of your business centre and upload to the portal.
Submit when you are done.
After your submission, the OPay team will now verify your documents in order to approve your request.

How Much to Apply for the POS Machine in Nigeria? –Application is free but the latest official POS prices for OPay POS machines are N50,000 for OPay Smart POS, N35,000 for OPay Traditional POS, and N8,500 for OPay Mini POS respectively.
After I apply, when will I get the POS? –After you have completed your application, it takes 24hrs for the OPay team to give you a response. You will receive an SMS/Email once your request is approved or declined.
What are the OPay POS charges and commission structure? –The charges on Opay POS and commission structure vary according to the volume of the transactions done via the POS terminal.
What if I have an issue with the POS device afterwards? –An engineer will be assigned to you from the OPay team after your request for a POS has been granted. You can lodge all complaint with the engineer.
